  • CofA

  • CofR

  • a means of measuring and displaying

  • time in hours, minutes and seconds

  • vertical speed

  • pressure altitude

  • the pressure of each burning gas supply line.

Radio communication equipment

Radio communication equipment has to be carried on each balloon.

Secondary surveillance radar transponder

A transponder is not needed at this event.

Miscellaneous equipment

Balloons shall be equipped with:

•     protective gloves for each crew member

•     an alternative source of ignition

•     a means of measuring and indicating fuel quantity

•     a drop line of at least 25 m in length.

Pilot restraint system

The use of a pilot restrain system is mandatory when operating in a basket with a separate compartment for the pilot-in-command or when the balloon is equipped with turning vents.

Pilots operating open (non-compartmented) baskets are strongly recommended to use a pilot restraint.

Emergency equipment

A list containing information on the survival and emergency equipment on board the balloon shall be carried in the retrieve vehicle.

Firefighting equipment

Balloons shall be equipped with at least one 2 kg hand fire extinguisher and a fire blanket or fire-resistant cover. Firefighting equipment shall be easily accessible for immediate use.

The balloon and other property of a team shall be at the risk of the team at all times. Teams will assume liability for all injury, loss or damage to third parties or their property and agree to indemnify the organizers in respect thereof.

Weather documentation

Any meteorological report or forecast, or other safety or navigational information, is provided in good faith for the guidance of pilots.

Responsibility

A pilot is responsible for the safe operation of his/her balloon at all stages of the inflation, launch, flight and landing. He/she must ensure that all equipment, flight and ground crews are adequate for the purposes intended.

Permission to fly

No balloon is to make any flight during the event without the express permission of the flight director.

Briefings

Briefings will be done before each flight at times to be published at registration, or as amended by posted notices at the events control.  Pilots are reminded that they are to fly within the limits of their experience and that the information offered at briefings is given in good faith and not as a permission to fly in a dangerous manner.

Spectators

Each pilot in the event will ensure that spectators, including crews and balloonists not assisting the balloon, are withdrawn to a safe distance from the balloon during the inflation and take-off. Provision of the ground crew is the responsibility of the pilot; their briefing and their actions are also the responsibility of the pilot.

Official language

The official language to be used during the event will be English.

Landowners

We are dependent on the goodwill of landowners. For us it is a matter of honour to ensure that the damage is minimal and not to scare animals. For this reason, we request to use your whispers when needed and fly under visual flight rules (VFR) and the NOTAMS issued.

Normally, if we behave as a true "visitor” and show our respect for nature and the people on whose property we land without prior approval, no problems will arise and we will be welcomed. Be careful not to cause damage and not go through farmland. If the field is closed, please call the organization and indicate from the map your location we will provide to open the gate.

Do´s & don´ts

  • Always keep your important equipment close or in a locked car before flight preparations or other.

  • Make sure that your passengers understand you correctly if not ask someone of the organization to help and/or translate.

  • Intoxicated pilots, crew or passengers are not permitted to attend a flight.

  • When a passenger presents any form of misconduct or misbehavior and a kind word or light warning exhibits no positive outcome, please ask for assistance and prevent any form of conflict.

  • Please inform us directly if a passenger, spectator, crew member, or even yourself, gets injured in any form or way, so that proper assistance can be provided.

  • And most important… have fun!!
